Is it really beneficial for Romania and Bulgaria to enter the Schengen airspace? This is a question troubling many heavyweight journalists, who thoroughly criticize the partial acceptance of the two countries, an initiative described by some as downright insulting.
Experienced journalist and former politician, Adriana Săftoiu , seemed underwhelmed with the scenario of a limited accession to Schengen, the European area where over 400 million people can move freely, without border controls, and on Friday, December 15, during the show “To the Point” on Canal 33, she explained exactly why, in her opinion, such an option does not bring great benefits.
In her opinion, “Air Schengen access is nothing”.
As permanent guest on Alexandru Răducanu’s “To the Point” show, she stated that “the biggest issue is the terrestrial Schengen access, where trucks and people going on holiday usually have to queue”.
The journalist – whose editorials are published on Thursdays on Canal33.ro – rather supports Bulgaria’s position, which emphasizes that the neighbouring country has already attained its Schengen member status.
“The Bulgarian Prime Minister explained very well the refusal of this outstretched hand”, Adriana Săftoiu added.
